Breast Feeding Service (NHS Fife)

The breastfeeding support service provides initial and continuing support to pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers and their families, predominantly in their own homes.

The team work alongside midwives, health visitors and family nurses to provide additional support for breastfeeding.

The service, made up of breastfeeding support workers, aim to contact all breastfeeding mothers shortly after discharge from hospital to offer support. This support can be by telephone, home visit or email / text messages.

Referrals can be made to the service by midwives, health visitors and family nurses. Mothers can also contact the service themselves at any point in their breastfeeding journey to seek support.

A visit to discuss infant feeding choices, preparing for the early days and getting breastfeeding off to a good start can be arranged antenatally.
